About Tony Blair Institute for Global Change:

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change we are dedicated to making globalisation work for the many, not the few. We do this by helping countries, their people and their governments, address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today – beginning with those where we think we can break new ground, offering leaders new thinking and new approaches. Our staff – over 200 of them, based all over the world – are working on some of the most intractable problems around issues of co-existence, governance, the peace process in the Middle East and renewing the centre.

Our Renewing the Centre work to revitalise the centre ground and equip today’s leaders to combat the rise of false populism. We are focused on the big policy challenges globalisation presents to today’s leaders and aim to combat populism and revitalise the centre-ground through a corpus of new policy thinking.

Focus of the Role:

The liberal international order is under increasing strain. Populist movements are challenging existing global co-operation through calls to take back national control and undermining liberal values at home, while authoritarian regimes are seeking to tilt the balance of international power in their favour by exporting anti-democratic norms and practices, and promoting strongman alternatives to democratic rule.

RTC is looking for a Senior Foreign Policy Fellow to join its core policy team and contribute new thinking on how liberal democracies should defend and promote their values to shore the liberal international order.

The duties of the Senior Fellow for International Affairs include:

Develop a long-term research programme to address the challenges to the liberal international order
Write policy reports and briefs that analyse current challenges and propose viable policy recommendations.
Build-out the programme by hiring junior fellows through external fundraising
Lead the public conversation on developments in international affairs
Work closely with RTC policy team to connect foreign policy with other strategic areas like technology policy
Work under the Executive Director to disseminate the Centre’s policy solutions and engage the public.
Manage Junior Researchers

What We Look For in Our People:

Candidates must have deep expertise in thinking and writing about international relations, particularly as they affect the liberal democracies of North America and Western Europe. We anticipate that the ideal candidate would have expertise in the foreign policy of the United States or European countries, with the ability to address a wide range of regional and global issues.

Qualifications include:

Being a leading expert in Foreign Policy, with a proven record of publishing substantive papers and reports that include innovative and viable policy recommendations
Extensive experience in diplomacy, a think-tank, or academic research.
Extensive writing experience for both policy and general audiences.
Relevant advanced degrees.
A team-player who would enthusiastically contribute to the work of our organisation as it expands in size and takes on new roles.
