At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change we are dedicated to making globalisation work for the many, not the few. We do this by helping countries, their people and their governments, address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today – beginning with those where we think we can break new ground, offering leaders new thinking and new approaches. Our staff – over 200 of them, based all over the world – are working on some of the most intractable problems around issues of co-existence, governance, the peace process in the Middle East and renewing the centre.
Focus of the Role:

Know-How:

  • Contribute towards the effective operation of Generation Global’s Education and Training Unit, providing technical expertise on education policy, curriculum development and pedagogy to Education Advisors, country coordinators and coordinating with the programme team to ensure the quality of design and implementation of education project activities (including trainings)ensuring sector quality standards.
  • Work with the Education and Training unit to advise on the development and localisation of Generation Global resources and training for a US market.
  • Contribute towards Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning of programmatic work in the Americas – ensuring that the program is meeting agreed impact and targets.
  • Undertake facilitation of video conferences and quality assurance of dialogue activities.


    Accountability:

  • Support the Head of Education & Training to design and deliver capacity development and training to staff members, country coordinators and implementing partners on Generation Global’s education approach.
  •  

    Responsibility:

  • Input into strengthening and developing the Institute’s global education programme.
  • Lead Advisor primarily in the US but also the wider Americas region.
  • Represent the Institute and the programme at senior levels at technical and donor coordination meetings, ensuring strong collaboration with the wider community of practice to ensure lessons are shared.
  • Input into the design and revision of Generation Global’s pedagogy, curriculum materials and training materials.
  • Deliver training to Education Advisors and country coordinators and support inductions of new project staff on the Institute’s education work.
  • Travel to programme areas to deliver training and capacity development activities, conduct needs assessments, identify and further partnerships, develop and implement strategies, and monitor and quality assure project activities.

  • Contribute towards needs assessments and development and implementation of associated regional/country strategies.
  • Identify and develop relevant partnerships that build profile for and advance the Institute and the pillar’s education work.

  • Ambition:

  • Support the Head of Education & Training to develop new approaches, projects and research to support policy recommendations and programme design.
  • Produce papers and articles that advocate our work based on evidence.
  • Contribute thought leadership within the Institute on education in collaboration with Institute colleagues.
What We Look For in Our People:

This role provides senior technical expertise to a CE pillar programme portfolio, playing a key advisory role within Generation Global’s Education and Training Unit. The Unit comprises Senior Education Advisors, Education Advisors and in-country coordinators across four regions (Americas, Europe, MENA and Sout Asia). The role is primarily responsible for developing and refining our educational approach that leads to effective policies and programming, effectively building capacity of the education team and ensuring the quality of our education programme. This involves designing project components, developing educational materials, delivering training and providing technical advisory support to the programme team and implementing partners and government and institutional partners based on latest trends in the sector. This role sits in a fast-paced and busy Programmes Team and should demonstrate the following core skills:

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Education system in the US and understanding of the current challenges in educations sector reform.
  • Being an excellent classroom practitioner, demonstrating substantial prior experience of succesful classroom practice, curriculum development and innovation.
  • A high level of presentation and communication skills, and the ability to engage, enthuse and inspire other education professionals – experience of planning and delivery of teacher professional development
  • A strong track record in engaging governments and institutions (local and national) on education policy reform and programming.
  • Significant experience in designing, delivering and monitoring and evaluating education programmes in international and complex settings, including

experience in education proposal development.

  • Significant experience in technical advisory work, including political economy analysis, conflict analysis and social analysis.
  • Direct experience of working in insecure contexts.
  • Ability to work flexibly and be adaptable, open to changing approaches in response to changing situations on the ground.
  • Demonstable understanding of relevant policy contexts and how to infuence policy with evidence of effective programming and practical solutions.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a high standard and to network with high level stakeholders in order to develop relationships that advance the Institute’s work.
  • Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods, report-writing and dissemination of learning.
  • Excellent understanding of the need to work across the Institute to maximise synergies, influence and impact.
  • Ability to develop others empathetically in a culturally diverse team setting and with multiple partners, and ability to support team members and work automously to achieve programme objectives.
  • Passion for tackling complex social challenges, and dedication to affecting meaningful change.
  • Awareness of the global competency agenda.
