About Tony Blair Institute for Global Change:

Each internship is different and set for a period of 8 weeks. Please only apply if you are available for the duration of July and August 2019.

Interviews will be scheduled in the first two weeks of December. You will be contacted via email if you are successful.

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change we are dedicated to making globalisation work for the many, not the few. We do this by helping countries, their people and their governments, address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today – beginning with those where we think we can break new ground, offering leaders new thinking and new approaches. Our staff – over 200 of them, based all over the world – are working on some of the most intractable problems around issues of co-existence, governance, the peace process in the Middle East and renewing the centre.
Focus of the Role:
To support the development of the Institute's Inclusive Growth Practice through its thought leadership agenda for inclusive growth in Africa, as well as that of Institute’s wider Africa work. And to provide data and analysis support to country teams on needs based.
What We Look For in Our People:
We are looking for an intern with a strong interest to learn about inclusive growth and the economic transformation of Africa; an interest in research, an interest in a range of topics that are key for inclusive growth – such as political economy, investment, value chain development, finance, industrial policy, trade and governance. We are also looking for an intern who is pro-active, has good writing and communication skills, is adaptive and flexible and able to work independently to high standard.

VALUES WE LOOK FOR:

  • COURAGE… because to tackle global challenges, we must innovate and take smart risks
  • COLLABORATION… because when we work together and with external partners, we can overcome even the largest problems
  • COMPASSION … because our work is ultimately about improving people’s lives

WHAT WE CAN OFFER IN RETURN:

  • Learning about the challenge of economic transformation in Africa, viewed from the lense of government leadership, policy making and implementation.
  • Learning about the development community and its role in this field
  • Working (virtually) with a few people across different geographies (Washington, London, Africa).
  • An understanding into the work of the Institute in Africa
  • The ability to leave a mark and challenge the Institute's thought process
  • The potential to have a piece of work published with his or her name on it, together with other members of the practice.
