Research Analyst

About Tony Blair Institute for Global Change:
At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change we are dedicated to making globalisation work for the many, not the few. We do this by helping countries, their people and their governments, address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today – beginning with those where we think we can break new ground, offering leaders new thinking and new approaches. Our staff – over 200 of them, based all over the world – are working on some of the most intractable problems around issues of co-existence, governance, the peace process in the Middle East and renewing the centre.
Focus of the Role:
 The Research Analyst will be part of a team delivering high quality research and analysis on the issues of:

* Countering extremism

* International security and counter-terrorism

The Research Analyst will report into the Policy Advisor (team manager) and will be responsible for conducting in-depth research through primary and secondary sources. The analyst will draft content targeted at specific audiences, including reports, briefings and presentations.

The duties of this post-holder are to:

* Conduct research into extremism in the UK and internationally by leveraging both primary and secondary sources

* Develop the structure and frameworks to be used for preparing substantial research reports/presentations

* Write in-depth reports, briefings, presentations and other content with high-quality analysis tailored to key target audiences

* Keep abreast of international geopolitical and security developments and identify new research areas of interest to policymakers and other stakeholders

What We Look For in Our People:

This is a role in a fast-paced team, working within complex policy areas that are highly scrutinised. The successful candidate for the role should be able to display the majority of the following:

• Master’s degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science, Economics or similar field.

• Relevant work experience as a Researcher/Analyst in an academic institution/think tank, in politics, or in a political risk consultancy

• Strong knowledge of religious extremism, political Islam and international politics

• Written and verbal Arabic language skills

• Ability and willingness to conduct detailed research, using both primary and secondary sources

• Excellent attention to detail and demonstrable skills or experience in writing for publication

• Strong critical thinking and ability to develop frameworks for analysing and explaining difficult information in accessible ways

• Ability to understand and analyse complex issues in an international context and present them in clear and comprehensible manner suitable for various audiences
